Attorney Jason Reynolds has a passion for helping people. Becoming a trial lawyer was inevitable for Bennett J. Schiller, III. He was born in Savannah, Georgia in 1968 the son of Bennett and Marie Schiller. Never having much in the material sense but having parents who put others first, taught Mr. Schiller to have compassion for others. When his family moved to Columbia, South Carolina for his father to attend Columbia Bible College times got even tougher. His dad went to school by day and worked in the cotton mill at night. This impressed upon Mr. Schiller at an early age that nothing replaces hard work and preparation. After graduating from Lexington High School as the Senior Class President, Mr. Schiller earned a full four year Citadel Scholars Scholarship for academics to The Citadel. While there, Mr. Schiller excelled both in the classroom and in public service to his school and community. He served as the President of Alpha Phi Omega, a national service fraternity. He also was President of the College Republicans. Mr. Schiller earned many awards including Presidents List, Dean’s List, National Merit Scholars, and National Beta Club awards. He was a member of The Citadel Inn of Court and a member of The 1990 Summerall Guards. He earned a BA in Political Science in 1990 from The Citadel. Before attending law school, Mr. Schiller worked as an office services assistant at McNair Law Firm in Columbia, South Carolina. That is where he met his wife, Karoline Higgins Schiller. Today, they have four beautiful, healthy children. During his time in law school at the University of South Carolina School of Law, Mr. Schiller worked for a successful personal injury firm Lee, Eadon, Isgett and Popwell. It is there that Mr. Schiller developed the passion for serving injured families. While in law school Mr. Schiller served his fellow students and the student Senator to the University of South Carolina’s Student Senate. He also was the President of Phi Delta Phi, The Federalist Society and the Law Republicans. Mr. Schiller enjoyed volunteering at many local charities and organizations including the Oliver Gospel Mission and Harvest Hope Food Bank. After graduating from USC School of Law in 1994, Mr. Schiller went to work for a local personal injury firm in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He quickly realized the need to be on his own and co-founded the firm Atwater, Schiller and Reeves. During this time Mr. Schiller grew his practice to include Lancaster, Chester, York and Columbia, SC. Mr. Schiller was elected to serve the 16th Circuit as the Circuit Representative on the Young Lawyers Division of the South Carolina Bar Association. Continuing his public service, Mr. Schiller served on the Board of Directors for the Upper Palmetto YMCA. He and his wife have served on committee for Young Life of York County. Mr. Schiller is also a recent past President of his Home Owners Association. Recently Mr. Schiller moved his family to Beaufort to get back to his roots. He opened the Beaufort Office in November of 2011 and has grown steadily. He jumped right into serving the community. He is currently on the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Beaufort. He is a member of the Leadership Beaufort Class of 2014. Mr. Schiller currently represents many locals and looks forward to many years of service to the Low Country. Derek is a native of Lancaster, South Carolina and a graduate of Lancaster High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 2007 from Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina. While at Presbyterian, Derek was named to the Dean’s List, worked in the student center, and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity. Immediately following undergraduate school, Derek sought his Juris Doctor degree from Charlotte School of Law in Charlotte, North Carolina. While attending law school, Derek studied abroad at the St. Mary’s University Institute on World Legal Problems, where he studied under an international faculty, including United States Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. After completing his education, Derek decided that the best use of his legal education would be to serve his hometown area. He began his legal career at a small firm in Lancaster, where he represented clients on a broad range of matters, including domestic, civil, criminal, and probate issues. Derek joins the Schiller & Hamilton team to head the firm’s newly reopened Lancaster Office to continue serving his hometown. He will focus his practice on family law and probate matters, as well as personal injury and accidents. Derek is an avid outdoorsman when not practicing law, and enjoys hunting and fishing throughout the year. He was awarded the Eagle Scout rank in 2001 while a member of Troop 72 of the Boy Scouts of America in Lancaster. Derek currently serves as an Area Chairman of Ducks Unlimited, leading the Lancaster County Chapter’s committee of volunteers to raise money and awareness to preserve and protect wetland habitat. In 2013, Derek completed the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce’s “Leadership Lancaster” program, a course designed to educate potential community leaders about the history, needs, and goals of Lancaster County. Derek and his wife, Natalie, are active in their church and community and enjoy traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Joel received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science as well as a minor in Business Administration from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC in 2006. While at Winthrop, Joel served as the President of Winthrop’s Pre-Law Society, was named to Pi Sigma Alpha, the Political Science National Honor Society as well as the Dean’s Honor List. He also co-founded Winthrop’s chapter of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Winthrop is also where Joel met his wife, Marina Hamilton. Joel Received his Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland, Ohio in 2009. He served as a student ambassador to prospective students as well as student representative to the Cleveland Bar Association. Joel was named to the Dean’s list for academic achievement and graduated with a Concentration in Business Law. Outside of the classroom, Joel co-founded and served as the Vice President of Operations for the Cleveland chapter of Minds Matter. Minds Matter assists underprivileged, high-achieving, inner-city high school students in gaining admission to four year colleges and universities. Minds Matter has quickly become one of the most respected and exciting non-profit organizations in Cleveland attracting exceptional students to the program as well as motivated young professional volunteers and distinguished board members. Joel received the President’s Volunteer Service Award from President Barack Obama for his efforts. During his sophomore year at Winthrop, Joel went to work as an intern with the Rinehart, Matthews, Schiller, Shaw and Reeves Law Firm in Rock Hill. It was during his time here that Joel found his passion for the law and helping injured people. It was during Joel’s first year at Case when Mr. Schiller gave Joel the opportunity to clerk for his firm. Joel jumped at the chance and made the drive from Cleveland, Ohio to Rock Hill every Fall, Christmas, Spring and Summer break to work and gain invaluable experience in serving others. Thanks to this experience, Joel began his practice in 2009 with five years of working alongside Mr. Schiller as an intern and then law clerk. In addition to practicing law, Joel has served on the board for the United Way of Lancaster County as well as on the leadership committee for the York County Republican Party. Zachary Steven Naert was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on February 8, 1984. His father was in the Navy, and shortly after being born they were transferred to where he grew up – the Charleston, South Carolina area. Zach graduated from Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston in 2002, with honors, and also earned an International Baccalaureate degree. Zach accepted academic scholarships to first attend Winthrop University and then Charleston School of Law. He earned two Bachelor of Science degrees from Winthrop, Modern Languages with a concentration in Spanish and Political Science from the honors college, also graduating with honors in 2006. It was also during college that Zach lived in Spain for a semester attending The University of Salamanca, one of the oldest universities in the world, earning outstanding marks. During his time at the Charleston School of Law, Zach was offered an internship for the United Stated Judge Advocates General’s (JAG) office and worked at the JAG office on Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, watching F-16 fighter jets all-lunch-long. He also worked extensively as an intern with the Migrant Farmworker Division of South Carolina Legal Services, a non-profit agency offering free civil legal services to indigent people. It was here that Zach got his first taste of advising and assisting people in standing up for their rights. Gene M. Connell, Jr. has been a member of the law firm since 1983.
