About Stephen

Stephen W. Cooper was the Commissioner of Human Rights for Minnesota and the Director of the Neighborhood Justice Center. After years of legal experience, he founded The Cooper Law Firm, Chartered, in 1991 to ensure that people who had been treated unfairly and illegally had strong, effective legal representation. He possesses over 40 years of trial experience in Federal and State courts, as well as, administrative matters. He has tried hundreds of cases to verdict in multiple State and Federal courts, ranging from extremely complex to straight forward cases and has favorably settled hundreds more. He has successfully handled many dozens of appeals, including winning landmark cases.

As the Commissioner of Human Rights, Stephen W. Cooper has drafted some of Minnesota's anti-discrimination laws. He has received numerous awards and has been a frequent guest on various media outlets to explain legal issues or discuss his own clients' cases. He's taught law school courses and continuing legal education seminars. He is licensed to practice law in all State and Federal courts in Minnesota and Georgia, as well as, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. He has also appeared in numerous other courts.
