About Stuart
Stuart Alford is a Massachusetts native. He began his legal career in 1990, and focuses his practice in the areas of Immigration, Landlord and Tenant Law, Bankruptcy and Personal Injury. He has successfully handled hundreds of cases before the Massachusetts Trial Court, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the U.S. Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
Mr. Alford's primary focus is Immigration Law, including Permanent Residence ("green cards"), Citizenship and Naturalization, Employment Authorization, and Relief from Removal and Deportation.
Prior to entering the practice of law, Mr. Alford volunteered his time as a student attorney with the Greater Boston Legal Services as a member of the immigration clinic. In his capacity as a student attorney, Mr. Alford assisted in the representation of individuals seeking political asylum from foreign regimes, which had persecuted his clients on the basis of their race, religion and political associations.
Today, Attorney Alford continues to successfully achieve the needs of his many immigration clients by helping them obtain legal status in the United States both on the basis of familial relationships as well as in the context of removal (deportation) proceedings before the United States Immigration Court.
Mr. Alford's most treasured "awards" are the many thank-you cards and letters received from satisfied clients who have found a new life in the United States. In addition to his successful and busy immigration practice, Attorney Alford's professional interests include the area of landlord and tenant law. From 1987 to 1998, Stuart Alford managed residential apartment buildings in Roslindale and Somerville. He personally handled all Summary Process and eviction matters, including expedited evictions of tenants involved in the sale of narcotics.
Attorney Alford brings his landlord/tenant experience to his current representation of individual landlords and municipal housing authorities and has utilized his experience as a landlord to aggressively seek the removal of tenants who were involved in illegal drug distribution and other dangerous activities. In many instances, the court ordered these tenants removed more rapidly than permitted under the Summary Process rules, which are generally utilized by landlords in most eviction matters.
Professional activities with which Mr. Alford is engaged include conducting immigration seminars for many community groups and seminars for first-time homebuyers on behalf of a major non-profit consumer credit counseling organization. Mr. Alford has appeared as the guest host on many foreign language radio programs in the greater Boston area, answering questions and educating listeners about their legal rights.
