About William
William C. Anderson received his undergraduate degree in 1963 from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, and his law degree in 1966 from The University of Michigan. He clerked for the Honorable A.P. Murrah, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, in 1966 and 1967, and has been in private practice with Doerner, Saunders, Daniel & Anderson in Tulsa since that time. His principal areas of practice include environmental law, public trust, real estate law, litigation and appeals.
Mr. Anderson began his practice of environmental law in the 1970's, before it was a recognized specialty. His practice has included extensive involvement in Superfund, RCRA, Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and waste water, private nuisance and toxic tort matters. He has been active as liaison counsel, co-lead counsel, and PRP counsel at numerous Superfund sites in Oklahoma and Kansas, in both regulatory as well as litigation phases. In the early 1980's, Mr. Anderson successfully represented a client in litigation seeking cost recovery/contribution for response costs arising out of a Superfund 106 Emergency Order, which is believed to be the first such suit in this jurisdiction and one of the first nationwide.
Mr. Anderson's practice in the public trust and real estate area has revolved around his role since 1978 as general counsel of the Oklahoma Ordnance Works Authority, a state beneficiary public trust located south of Pryor, Oklahoma. This Authority owns and operates the Mid-America Industrial Park, which consists of approximately 7000 acres of real estate that is actively marketed for industrial/economic development and the resulting creation of new jobs for northeast Oklahoma. The Authority also owns and operates its own water and waste treatment facilities. This representation has encompassed both environmental and regulatory issues associated with the water and waste treatment facilities as well as all aspects of economic and industrial development projects, including preparation of economic development agreements, contracts, leases, deeds, easements and the like, together with multiple aspects of public agency law and finance. Companies with whom economic development projects have recently been completed include affiliates of Pepsico, Dupont and Google.
In 1988, Mr. Anderson was selected to become a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers. Membership in this organization is by invitation only, and requires a minimum of 15 years of trial experience. It is limited to no more than one percent of the active lawyers in any state or province in the United States and Canada. Membership is based not only on excellence in trial and appellate skills, but also requires the highest ethical standards and integrity.
Mr. Anderson is one of a distinguished group of attorneys who have been listed in Best Lawyers in America for more than ten years. He is also listed in Super Lawyers. He is licensed to practice in all Oklahoma courts, all federal courts in Oklahoma, numerous other federal district courts and courts of appeal, and the United States Supreme Court. He has been active in the American Inns of Court and the Tulsa County Bar Association, and in 1991 received the Golden Rule Award for Professionalism from the Tulsa County Bar Association.
