During her undergraduate studies, Dana also attended the University of Reading, located in Reading, England. In 1987, Dana received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Georgia. She clerked for the Georgia Court of Appeals, and after being admitted to the Georgia bar, came to Canton to join the law firm of McVay and Stubbs. Dana later became a founding partner in the firm of Dyer, McElyea & Thompson. In 1999, Dana established the firm that is now known as Thompson, Meier & King.

In 1994, she was selected to serve as a Special Assistant Attorney General, a position that she has held since being appointed. Dana became a Georgia Registered Mediator for both Civil and Domestic mediations in 1995, one of the first 100 registered mediators in the State of Georgia. She has chaired the Canton Downtown Development Authority and served on its board from 1998-2008, at which time she was appointed an assistant City Judge. As chairwoman of the DDA, she was instrumental in the financing, renovation, and restoration of the Canton Theatre. From 2001 to 2003, Dana served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board. Since 2003, Dana has served on the Cherokee County Family Violence Board. In 2005, she became a member of the Cherokee County DUI / Drug Court Steering Committee, and now serves on the Cherokee County Friends of Recovery Foundation.
