Installed the panel and we noticed how bad they sealed the everything on my roof. Requested someone to come half a year ago and no one showed up. Now California is under storm season and we are seeing roof leak. Even with an escalated case, we have to wait for a week for people to inspect and 2-3 weeks to have this fixed, meanwhile our roof is just keep having leaks whenever it rains.
Update after 2 weeks SunPower replied to this reivew. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ They asked me about the case number so that they can follow up.And after 2 week, I have no contact from them yet. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I purchased their system two years ago, and it has been reliable for the most part. However, my experience with their customer service has been abysmal. Without any explanation, they've rescheduled appointments three times already. Now, I'm told I have to wait another three months for someone to finally come. It feels like they might be a one-person team. Needless to say, I'll be cautious about choosing them again. I've heard similar complaints about other big companies like Tesla. Once they install your system, it seems like support becomes nonexistent. That's why I'm inclined to explore smaller companies that prioritize responsiveness to their customers.
Run… just run. Had Sunpower install my solar system. They came recommended in the area. It too them 2 years to finish the process and many months after the panels were installed to switch on the generation. They claimed it was the utility company but I worked for the utility company and reviewed the file. No one had started the process. We finally got it on after weeks of complaining (which is not in my nature). The install crew wrecked my property, destroyed my sidewalk, and left a 5 ft open trench in my yard for weeks. I put up caution tape to stop people from falling in. They offered me some plants to replace the ones they ripped out. Now we are trying to sell the house, and Sunpower cannot tell me if they have received my transfer documentation and no definite timeline besides the standard response of 30-60 days. Their ignorance may cost us the sale. This company is a joke. Again, run.
Post-installation support is awful. I have a system that for the most part was working. The inverter for the battery system failed. I have been without a complete system so far for 6 months due to. Parts shortage. They have "escalated my case" but the specialist said he would return with an answer but always never gives an answer. His answer is simply we have to wait until next week, but you are on top of our priority. The specialist has not responded in 3 weeks this time. Stay away from Sunpower. How can they not have parts for 6 months!
Here's the highlights, hopefully our experience improves with time: - Initial quote to final completion: 11 months. Based on the initial quote we believed our solar might be up and running in 3-5 months - Communication during the process: so-so, and our "install coordinator" changed midway thru the process. Both of them were okay, but located in a different time zone from us and impossible to get ahold of. Even if you call their direct line during (their) business hours, expect to get a customer service rep who doesn't know your situation and wastes 15 minutes of your time before eventually transferring you to your rep, who isn't available anyways because they're in a meeting, etc. Expect a lot of email back and forth, and other than the salesman and the install guys don't ever expect to see someone in person again - MPU (electrical panel) upgrade: Our 70 year old house understandably needed a new electrical panel, and this was built into our project estimate. They farmed it out to a subcontractor, who did a terrible job. The 1/2 day project took 4 days, and parts of our home were left without power during that time, including our freezer in the garage. We lost all of that food. Supposedly SunPower is going to reimburse us, but it's been radio silence. When the job eventually did get done, the final fit and finish is poor. I sent photos of unpatched holes, texture that doesn't match the rest of the wall, and unpainted areas. No response from SunPower. Keep in mind this is the front corner of my house, closest to the driveway and street. This isn't like a corner that's tucked away behind the house, out of sight and out of mind. It's front and center every time you come and go. I'll do the final fit and finish myself to bring it up to standard - MPU (Electrical Panel) Part 2: As part of the permitting for the new panel, (and six months into our job), we were told our carport would need to be removed or cut back by 4' in order to accommodate the permitting requirements for the new panel. After much back and forth we were told we had zero alternative options. Had we known this at the start of the process (which we should have, we had someone come out to look at our house during the initial quote) we may not have ever pursued the project in the first place. I spent a Saturday cutting my newly reinforced, painted, and roofed carport back by 4' to accommodate the new panel. When the electricians showed up to install the new panel, they pointed at the carport roof and said "I can't believe they made you do that." - The app is great, and I hope now that our system is officially up and running we will see some return on our investment. It's too bad it's November and gets dark at 4pm. We hoped, and were told to expect, a working system in more like June-August time frame.
