We recently did closing of our new house in Calgary and we decided to go with the Lawyer assigned by the builder ( McLeod Law and with Christine) Christine was okay, we signed documents over FaceTime. Since, I was familiar with the documents, I didn’t need more education on that but if you aren’t familiar then I would recommend not using this lawyer as it was a super quick process. The Law Clerk, Rose Madriaga was absolutely unpleasant to deal with. She has zero customer skills, not friendly at all and was just plain rude. If you get contacted by Rose, please request a different clerk cause she will make your experience HORRIBLE. We did our closing back in June of 2023 and we have been waiting since then to get our copies of the signed documents back from them. I have been emailing them since August regarding our copies and they have not responded at all (so far have sent them 3 emails and called few times as well). To top it off, they made a spelling mistake on a title document. The name on the land title is incorrect, so that is another headache we have to deal with. Based on our experience, we will not recommend this firm.
Worst Experience ever... We recently did the closing of our new house in Calgary and we decided to go with Builder assigned Lawyer, which is McLeod Law in this case Our Lawyer Christine was in a hurry, she did not explain anything to us. She just asked us to sign the documents; and asked us to handover the signed documents to front desk once done. The way they treated us was very very bad. No one emailed us the signed documents either. We will never ever recommend this firm.
I’d would like to say a huge shout out to Hayley, assistant to Michael Kwiatkowski! I would not serve justice without giving props to the Macleod Law South location. Engaging in needing legal advice and guidance, unsure of who to trust or who to retain, over the course of several months, they gained my loyalty and I am very grateful for the opportunity to have worked with this firm. When you just cannot fight your battles anymore, hand them over!
I hate to leave a bad review, but I had an extremely unfortunate experience working with Jeff Larson on a commercial real estate deal. Self admittedly, I'm new to commercial real estate and leasing real estate properties. I hired Jeff to guide me through the process and add some "legitimacy" to my offer to lease, and make sure I didn't come across as inexperienced or "green." I also wanted to ensure I didn't get taken advantage of by someone more experienced than me on the other side of negotiations. In my opinion I didn't feel as though Jeff was very engaged, and he didn't seem to offer much in terms of advice or guidance. I had done up a lease to go over with him before I sent it to the landlord, and he just agreed to everything I had already done on my own, without offering any guidance or support. After sending the official lease offer to the landlord, it got completely torn apart. Wording was incorrect, legal definitions were wrong, format was confusing for the landlord and certain things about the offer didn't make sense (I didn't realize it at the time). I came off the exact way I had tried so hard to avoid. I came off as inexperienced and "green." I wanted to give Jeff a chance to chat about it before leaving an online review. I sent him an email and was honest with him about my experience. I let him know how disappointed I was, and how much more my bill was than I was expecting. His response was scathing. He completely tore me a new.....you know what. He said things like, "I wager I have done hundreds of more leases than him" - When referring to questions about the lease from the landlord. "You got off light at only $$$$" - When I was completely shocked to get a bill as high as it was. "You were the one who wanted to do it yourself and save a buck." - When I brought up the mistakes with the lease offer that he didn't catch. Like I mentioned, I really do hate to leave a negative review, but I couldn't be more disappointed with Jeff's professionalism and demeanor. I was hoping that after I shared my concerns that he may show empathy or ask questions to improve his service, but instead he has been arrogant and defensive. I was very disappointed in my experience, and I'm left with a really sour taste in my mouth.
Lauren Ghent was my legal counsel for a high conflict family law case. She provided guidance and made sure I understood the process. She answered emails promptly and was easy to talk to. She was worth every penny. Also, the invoices included a thorough breakdown/description of the services provided and I never felt confused as to what I was paying for. The legal assistant, Marsha MacDougall, did an amazing job at handling any requests/questions etc. when Lauren was out of office. She made sure urgent submissions were taken care of, and did an excellent job keeping all the documents in my file organized.
