J. Bart McMahon was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky and graduated from Trinity High School in 1988. Mr. McMahon earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with High Distinction at the University of Kentucky in 1991 before entering law school at the University of Louisville.

Mr. McMahon graduated from the University of Louisville School of Law in 1995, Cum Laude. While in law school, Mr. McMahon was a member of the law journal. Mr. McMahon also clerked for insurance defense firms in Louisville, Kentucky, first with Gittleman & Barber and then with Clark, Ward & Cave.

After graduation from law school, Mr. McMahon obtained licenses to practice law in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the State of Indiana. Along with the Kentucky and Indiana law licenses, Mr. McMahon is licensed in the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. McMahon entered a law practice with his father, Michael R. McMahon, in 1995 and remained in practice with his father through 2004, before forming the law offices of J. Bart McMahon, P.S.C. Mr. McMahon's law practice is centered on representing the individual throughout each stage of the judicial process. Mr. McMahon represents injured persons, accused persons and persons needing representation in family court. Notable cases handled by Mr. McMahon include the following:

Joshua Wilson v. City of Louisville - The Louisville Police Department wrongly arrested and accused Joshua Wilson of a brutal car-jacking in which an innocent victim was shot and survived. Both the victim and the other eye-witness described assailants of a different race than Joshua Wilson. After a trial by jury, Joshua Wilson was awarded a verdict of damages in the amount of $952,500.00. The City of Louisville appealed the case all the way to the Kentucky Supreme Court before Joshua Wilson collected his compensatory damages.

Troy Ramsey v. Louisville Zoo - Mr. McMahon and his father represented an individual, Troy Ramsey, who was attached by a rogue elephant at the Louisville Zoo. The case was settled in advance of trial in excess of $1,000,000.00.

Robertson v. Vinson Mr. McMahon represented three adult children who lost their father in an accident caused by a drunk driver. This case was decided by the Kentucky Supreme Court and resulted in a published decision addressing heirs' rights to underinsured/uninsured motorist's coverage.

State of Indiana v. Devonna McDonald Mr. McMahon represented Devonna McDonald, who was accused of stabbing and robbing a Papa John's pizza deliveryman. This case was sensationalized by local media due to the gender and age of the accused.

State of Indiana v. Dammond T. Kelly Mr. McMahon represented Damond T. Kelly who was accused of murdering another in Jeffersonville, Indiana with a Chinese assault rifle. After trial by jury, Mr. McMahon secured an acquittal for Dammond T. Kelly.

Hinkle v. Commonwealth Mr. McMahon represented Diana Hinkle, whose home was being seized by the Commonwealth Attorney for Bullitt County. Mr. McMahon took Diana Hinkle's case to the Kentucky Court of Appeals to insure Diana Hinkle's property rights to be honored. The case was published and Diana Hinkle received her equitable share of her home.

Troy Rufra v. St. Matthews - Mr. McMahon represented Troy Rufra, and secured compensation for Troy for falsely being accused of bank robbery in Kentucky and Indiana. This case was settled for a confidential amount after mediation.
