John Juergensmeyer, Attorney

John E. Juergensmeyer has served as Chairman of the Illinois and Chicago Bar Association Local Government Law Committees, and has written and lectured extensively for numerous professional associations.  He has served as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Illinois, and as both Assistant State's Attorney and Assistant Public Defender for Kane County.  John was appointed to the National Commission on Libraries and Information Sciences by President Reagan. Dr. Juergensmeyer has been Professor of Constitutional Law and Political Science at Judson College, Elgin, Illinois, and has served on the teaching faculty of the University of Illinois, Northern Illinois University, and the University of Hawaii, and has written numerous monographs and articles for legal and professional periodicals.

In addition to the Bar Associations of Kane County, Cook County, Illinois and American, John is very active in local political and civic organizations, including service as a leader of local Rotary, Jaycee, Boy Scouts, Salvation Army, United Methodist Church, Judson College, The Life Center, and many other groups.  He has been involved in "Refusenik" and conservation activities and has been on Boards of two local banks, and has many active business and real estate interests, including subdivision development. John served with the United States Air Force Intelligence Service in Japan and elsewhere in the Far East, leaving as a Reserve Captain.

Dr. Elizabeth Juergensmeyer, his wife, is Professor of Developmental Biology and Chairman of the Science-Math Division at Judson College, where she has served as Faculty Moderator. Both Betty and John are United Methodist Lay Speakers. Their daughter, Margaret Ann (with her husband Brian Juergensmeyer) is active in space biology, and Frances Elizabeth, in library and computer sciences. Betty and Margie have had experiments on several space shuttle and MIR satellite flights, and are doing other NASA research.
