About Kafi

Kafi Linville concentrates her practice primarily in the areas of commercial and residential construction defect litigation.  Kafi has handled numerous multi-million dollar, multi-party townhouse and condominium cases throughout Minnesota, many of which specifically address Minnesota Common Interest Ownership Act (MCIOA) issues.  She regularly represents general contractors and subcontractors in both large and small commercial and residential matters.  Kafi also has extensive experience representing major window manufacturing companies.  Kafi has litigated a multitude of matters involving both commercial and residential construction defect, mechanics liens, and MCIOA.  She also works with clients in the areas of construction-related product liability issues and insurance coverage litigation.  Kafi's detailed and thorough knowledge of construction industry practices and procedures is indispensable, and affords her with the essential foundation to provide clients with effective representation.   

Since beginning her practice, Kafi has tried cases at both state and federal courts and successfully argued before the Minnesota Court of Appeals.

Following her graduation from William Mitchell College of Law in 2000, Kafi worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Ann L. Alton in Hennepin County District Court.  Kafi then went on to practice law in the area of insurance defense and represented municipalities in civil rights lawsuits in both state and federal court.  Her representation included various law enforcement agencies around the state.  Prior to entering the legal field, Kafi worked as a police officer for the Duluth Police Department.

Representative Cases:
Commercial Office Building.  Represented general contractor against water-intrusion claims at a Twin Cities commercial office complex.  Alleged defect claims included faulty stucco installation and defects in the pre-cast masonry.

Townhouse & Condominium Projects.  Represented several general contractors against various claims brought by unit owners and associations.  Claims included improper window installation, lack of proper drainage, HVAC issues, and faulty concrete installation.  Kafi has also represented numerous subcontractors including framers, exterior siders, landscapers, and roofers.

Government Building Plaza.  Represented masonry subcontractor in a multi-million dollar lawsuit involving a major metropolitan county government center plaza.  The claims included improper brick installation and water-proofing membrane installation.

Residential Construction Defects.  Represented a variety of trades on residential construction defect lawsuits, including: general contractors, stucco subcontractors, framer/window installers, window manufactures, roofers, lumber distributors, HVAC installers, excavators, and masons.
