About Keith
Keith Sorge joined Arthur, Chapman, Kettering, Smetak and Pikala, P.A. in 2009. Keith is a litigation attorney focusing on intellectual property cases. He has 20 years of experience, including numerous intellectual property cases venued in courts around the country. Keith counsels clients on protecting their intellectual property portfolios and how best to seek redress when infringement of that property occurs. Keith previously spent 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, earning a rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and practicing for 14 years in the Judge Advocate General's (JAG) department. While in the JAG department, Keith tried numerous jury trials and served as the supervising attorney for over 90 courts-martial.
Keith's extensive litigation experience covers a wide-range of industries. For example, in 2008, Keith was co-counsel for a small business struggling to survive the infringement of its patent by one of the largest manufacturers of food storage containers in the country. After a summary judgment finding of infringement, the case settled favorably for the client. In another 2008 case, Keith was co-counsel for a power tool corporation involved in numerous lawsuits with a competitor. Keith defeated a motion to stay litigation pending the reexamination of the already-expired patent, keeping pressure on the defendant to settle all the disputes between the parties. Keith also represented one of several defendants in a patent case involving data compression and the JPEG standard, which settled favorably. Keith has also served as co-counsel in a software license dispute in an International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) arbitration for a Canadian software company and Japanese distributor.
