About Marc
Marc S. Rothenberg has been active in the Long Beach legal community for more than 30 years. He is a juvenile criminal and family law attorney in private practice and head of a three-attorney firm, which has been at its same location in Bixby Knolls since 1984. He received his B.A. in Economics from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1973, and his J.D. from Pepperdine University in 1976.
Marc has served his local legal community as a member and chair of many committes, including chairing the Youth And Law Committee and Scholarship Committee. He served as Vice-President of the Long Beach Barristers in 1979, and President of the Long Beach Barristers Club in 1980. He has also been a long-standing member of the Criminal Law and Family Law sections. He has entertained the legal community as a member of the parody singing group, The Barrister Brothers.
Marc has also been active on a statewide basis by being Vice-President and a Board Member of the California Young Lawyers Association in 1983-1985, as well as being Vice-Chair, Chair and Advisor to the State Bar's Committee on Juvenile Justice from 1980-1985. He also served on the Judicial Nominee's Evaluations Committee (JNE) from 1985-1987, and assisted the governor through his work on this committee in appointing judges throughout the entire state.
Marc has been continually active with youth oriented legal projects, and was one of the first instructors in the Long Beach Bar Foundation's Shortstop Program from 1993 to the present day. He served as the Long Beach Bar Foundation's President from 2001-2003, and continues to serve on its Board of Governors. He is the Contract Manager for the Long Beach Juvenile Defender's Association, a panel of attorneys who are appointed by the Superior Court to represent minors in Juvenile Court.
Civic minded, and again focused on youth, Marc is an inaugural appointee of the City of Long Beach's recent Commission on Youth & Children, and has served as its parliamentarian from 2004 to the present day. Marc is also a member of the City of Long Beach's Youth & Gang Violence Prevention Task Force, and has been its Vice-Chair since its inception to the present day. This task force has formed the basis of the Long Beach GRIP Advisory Counsel of which Marc continues to serve the City of Long Beach as the Vice Chair. His activities on the City's Commission and Task Force have resulted in awards from the City of Long Beach Human Dignity Program as a collaborative partner in the Enough Is Enough Program, a 41-hour televised community dialogue spearheaded by the Long Beach Press-Telegram and Leadership Long Beach. Activities on this committee and on the City's committee and task force also resulted in Long Beach being named one of the 100 Best Communities in the Country for Youth, and the Western Regional Winner from America's Promise, a program founded by Colin Powell.
Marc has also been involved in community activities and has served as a coach for recreational and club soccer teams for 20 years, and is a former Chief of his Tribe and in the Nation of the Indian Guides Program at the Lakewood-Weingart YMCA.
Marc is married to Kathleen Hoyt, and has three sons, Ben, Dan, and Peter who have been born, raised and educated in the City of Long Beach, including graduates from both Millikan and Poly High Schools. His oldest son is married to Cheri Nelson, and Marc's first grandchild, Dylan, was born in February 2007. His middle son is currently attending law school at De Paul in Chicago, and his youngest son will soon graduate UCLA after spending his junior year abroad in Japan.
In January 2007, Marc was honored by the Long Beach Bar Association as the 2006 "Lawyer of the Year".
