About Michael

Personal injury victims need someone who understands their pain, who is invested in them and will guide them through the complicated maze of their medical and legal worries. They need an attorney who cares about them and their families.

My name is Michael Waks and I am a Long Beach Personal Injury Lawyer focused on the needs of people who have suffered because of someone else’s actions.

While still attending Southwestern University School of Law, I clerked for a big defense law firm that represented manufacturers of asbestos. I read the files and met the people whose lives were ruined by asbestos and I knew, for the rest of my career, I wanted to help people like them: the victims, not the perpetrators.

I have been doing just that for over 30 years. As soon as I passed the Bar I opened the Law Office of Michael D. Waks in Long Beach and began exclusively representing seriously injured accident victims. I decided to be a sole practitioner so I could handle every case personally. I understand clients are different and that in the wake of an accident their suffering will be unique, ranging from physical and financial to emotional.

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

My 85 year old client was involved in a horrific car crash. I vigorously litigated the case for 2 years and eventually resolved the matter for $4.875 Million thereby affording him all the funds he needs to be taken care of for the remainder of his years. His family was very relieved and happy with the results.

How did you build a successful practice?

By treating every client as if they were family. I made sure to always respond quickly to all inquiries and made sure all of my clients always knew what was going on with their case.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Experience. Knowledge of the specialty that is being handled. Empathy. Patience. Your Personal Injury Attorney needs to be aggressive, someone who does not back down when confronted with obstacles.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

It depends on the case. Local ordinances may be determinative of whether or not the client does or does not have a viable case.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

I can determine whether or not you have a case worth pursuing.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

1) the date of the accident 2) was the other party at fault 3) were you injured 4) did you have insurance on your car 5) was the other party insured 6) was a police report made 7) how much damage was there to your car 8) were there any witnesses to the accident

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I am a sole practitioner. I handle your case personally, unlike most firms that hand your case over to a non lawyer employee for handling. I actually take my difficult cases to Trial, unlike most attorneys who are too afraid to try cases before a a jury.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Getting Justice for my clients. Having them tell me at the end of the case, or often times while the case is going on, how much they appreciate my handling their case for them.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

Scuba Diving. Snow skiing. Water skiing. Family.

Are you involved in your community?

I am a Board Member of the Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Charity.
