Richard Shea graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management in 1995 and received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University School of Law – Bloomington in 1998. He has concentrated his practice in the field of Consumer Bankruptcy for the past 11 years. I represented a Defendant charged with Sexual Abuse of a Minor in Harford County, Maryland. The allegations involved sexual contact by a grandfather on his grand-daughter. After four days of trial in the Circuit Court for Harford County, the Defendant was found not guilty on the sexual abuse charges. I also represented a Defendant in Baltimore County this year, who was charged with distribution of child pornography, and the Court agreed with me that probation was the appropriate sentence and not active incarceration, which was sought by the State's Attorney. How did you build a successful practice? I built a successful criminal defense practice based upon hard work and surrounding myself with an extremely competent staff, including lawyers and paralegals. What should clients look for in a lawyer? I have always suggested that clients should look for a well experienced criminal defense lawyer who is competent and compassionate. How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases? It is absolutely important that a lawyer be completely familiar with the prosecutor assigned to his or her case and, more importantly, to know how and individual judge will rule on a particular Defendant's case. Building relationships with both prosecutors and judges certainly gives more credibility to the lawyer which will ultimately benefit his or her client. During a free phone consultation, I generally review the client's charges which I am able to obtain from the Maryland Judiciary Case Search website. I review those charges with the client and ask that the client provide me with a copy of the original statement of charges. What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? The most rewarding aspect of my job is the ability to help those individuals charged with any criminal offense. In addition to practicing law, I enjoy skiing, exercising at the gym, and spending as much time as possible with my wife and children. Are you involved in your community? I am have been a Mason and active member of S.Gompers-B Franklin Lodge No. 45 and also a member of the Scottish Rite and Boomie Temple for over ten years. I have been an active member with the Elks Lodge-Towson for over fifteen. All of these organizations are charity organizations assisting members of our community.

Daniel J. Bounds founded Bounds and Bounds, PLLC in 2022 and serves as the Managing Partner of the Firm. Before practicing law, Daniel accumulated his experience through various leadership roles in both the private and public sectors. Graduating from Virginia Tech with a bachelor’s degree in History, Daniel commissioned as an Officer in the United States Marine Corps. Daniel was promoted to Captain in 2017 and served from 2012 to 2020 in various active and reserve duty roles as a combat engineer officer. Daniel’s time in the reserves allowed him to gain valuable business experience through holding leadership roles in the private sector: from operations manager at LKQ Corporation, a Fortune 500 company; to running the NATO conference center at Alion Science and Technology. Daniel earned his law degree from Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center while also attending George Mason University’s Law School for his final three semesters. During law school, Daniel held various legal positions, serving as a clerk to Judge Jeffrey Parker in Virginia’s 20th Judicial Circuit and working with the private firm of Turbitt, Leach, & Crum in Fairfax, Virginia. After law school, Daniel gained valuable trial experience as an Associate Attorney with Howard, Clark & Howard in Warrenton, Virginia. At Howard, Clark & Howard, Daniel primarily worked as a trial attorney, serving clients in civil, domestic, and criminal matters. While gaining trial experience, Daniel simultaneously grew his business law practice, serving a wide range of businesses, including those focusing on Virginia’s cannabis market. Today, Daniel’s diverse practice is enhanced by his past business experience, trial experience, and his time in numerous military and civilian leadership positions. Daniel also serves as General Counsel for AgriTech LLC, a tech company focusing on merging technology and agriculture to ensure a sustainable future.

Born in South Dakota, raised in Iowa, and now practicing law in Minnesota, Blake is the very definition of a Midwestern lawyer. He attended the University of Iowa, graduating in 2004 and received a bachelor's degree in English literature and philosophy. After college, he went to Drake Law School in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated law school in 2010 and was admitted to the Iowa bar in the same year. Blake founded Lubinus Law Firm, PLLC in 2011, which became Lubinus & Merrill, P.L.C. in 2019, and practiced in the Des Moines metro area and surrounding rural counties for nearly ten years. His primary areas of focus were criminal defense, juvenile welfare, and family law. After the uncertainty and chaos brought on by the pandemic in 2020, Blake moved to Minnesota this past September to be closer to his family. He was hired on at Ed Shaw Law in April of 2021 and will be practicing primarily in the areas of probate, family law, and general civil litigation. In his free time, Blake plays live music at local venues, enjoys backpacking and kayaking, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs, and spending time with his family. He is excited to join the Brainerd legal community and looks forward to getting to know his fellow colleagues.

Mr. Brumbaugh is the senior shareholder of Walstead Mertsching. He joined the firm in 1992 and has been a shareholder since 1996. He primarily represents victims of motor vehicle collisions and medical malpractice. He is licensed in Washington and Oregon and practices in both State and Federal trial and appellate courts. He has successfully argued before the Washington State Supreme Court. His areas of focus include: wrongful death claims; automobile, motorcycle and trucking collisions; medical and nursing home malpractice; and defective product claims.
