For nearly three decades, Maurice has represented corporate and individual clients in numerous high profile, sophisticated intellectual property matters relating to business transactions and commercial litigation. He works with clients to develop intellectual property strategies, including strategies for the procurement, licensing and enforcement of copyrights, trademarks, and patents. Maurice also advises clients on a wide range of issues relating to internet law and social media, including issues concerning rights of privacy, rights of publicity and defamation. Maurice is also an experienced and well-known trial lawyer. He has served as lead trial and appellate counsel in high-stakes patent and intellectual property litigation involving companies in a wide array of industries, from pharmaceutical and biotechnology to media and entertainment. Maurice routinely handles trademark and copyright matters for clients in the fashion, music, media, entertainment, computer and software industries. Although he focuses his practice in the area of intellectual property, Maurice has also served as trial counsel in complex securities, RICO, lender liability, antitrust cases, and he has extensive experience representing corporate executives and other individuals in white collar criminal defense matters, often relating to intellectual property. Maurice also has frequently been called upon to advise clients regarding the risks and benefits of proposed mergers, acquisitions and other transactions, particularly as such transactions involve transfers and licensing of intellectual property rights. Maurice is also recognized as an expert on disputes relating to the attorney-client privilege and work product immunity, and he has been counsel of record in landmark decisions in this area. More recently, Maurice has advised domestic and international clients concerning how to successfully and efficiently address the challenges and burdens imposed by electronic discovery and social media, including the use of social media postings as evidence in complex litigation. Maurice has published frequently in the areas of intellectual property, patent law, media and internet law, and the attorney-client privilege. Maurice has long been a proponent for using alternative dispute resolution mechanisms for efficient resolution of complex business disputes, at both the trial and appellate levels. Further, given the economic realities and costs of conducting complex intellectual property and commercial litigation, Maurice encourages his clients from the earliest stages of litigation to attempt to aggressively pursue settlement. By the same token, Maurice has long advocated aggressive use of the pre-trial discovery process to improve his clients’ likelihood of success at trial, and in recent years he has focused extensively on how to use emerging technologies to make the pre-trial discovery process more efficient and cost-effective. Maurice has appeared in the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the District of New Jersey, the District of Colorado and the Northern District of California, and he has argued appeals in the United States Courts of Appeals for the Federal, Second and Fifth Circuits, as well as State Courts in New York. Prior to joining Barton LLP, Maurice was a shareholder with Budd Larner and practiced at Clifford Chance and Sullivan and Cromwell.

Ian was born on a public holiday- Veteran’s Day, November 11, 1977 in Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, New York to loving parents, Wendy and Warren who went on to have another son Jason, who is a successful Cantor in Northern Virginia. Since Veteran’s Day was a public holiday, Ian enjoyed public school closures throughout his early years and has extended that tradition into his Firm, making Veteran’s Day his Firm’s first recognized holiday. Ian learned from his early years. That fighting through physical altercation or violence was unacceptable. Rather, Ian fought through using his words, for words yielded an insurmountable amount of power which violence could never achieve. Underneath Ian’s sarcastic, strong and serious exterior is a thoughtful and compassionate man who vigorously fights for those who find themselves incapable of using words, or articulating messages in furtherance of their cause or in their defense. For Ian, there is no separation between personal and professional life as an attorney’s job is a 24/7 undertaking. You can always expect from Ian an insightful and razor-sharp approach to any obstacle preventing a path forward. Particularly sensitive to the needs and unique attributes of minority populations, it is always better to have Ian on your side than against. Eric enjoys spending time with his family, playing sports, and coaching youth basketball, soccer and baseball. Eric also volunteers in his church and the community to help others in need.

Ted Lyon was born and raised in Terrell, Texas. His undergraduate degree is in political science that he obtained from East Texas State University (now known as Texas A&M Commerce). Prior to law school, Ted married his high school sweetheart, Donna. While working as a police officer, he put himself through undergraduate school and then went to Southern Methodist University School of Law. Over the past 41 years, Ted has represented clients in over 150 jury trials. Ted has over 41 years’ experience representing clients in complex litigation, involving personal injury, wrongful death, products liability, and business disputes. He has received verdicts that were ranked in the top ten in the nation on three occasions. He has been interviewed and featured by national and local media outlets, including Good Morning America, 60 Minutes II, NBC Dateline, Texas Lawyer, Dallas Observer, The National Law Journal, D Magazine, and Texas Monthly. Ted specializes in complex litigation. Ted has repeatedly (2003 through 2018) been named to the Super Lawyer List by Texas Monthly, and was named one of the top 100 Lawyers in America by American Trial Lawyers Association consecutively since 2007.

Mr. Guerra is the founder of Guerra Law Group, with offices in McAllen, TX; Houston, TX; and Rio Grande City, TX. Mr. Guerra has represented thousands of clients who have been injured due to the negligence of others, including auto accidents, premises liability claims, defective drugs, defective medical devices, and defective products. Mr. Guerra brings to the law office a diverse background as an assistant district attorney, an associate attorney with Lewis, Pettit, and Hinojosa, and years of experience in private practice. Founder Jessica Scutt, attorney at law, represents clients in Texas and beyond in a variety of legal matters. Ms. Scutt started her career in the Chicago Housing Authority legal department. Don Sullivan has spent his entire career – over 40 years – fighting for regular people. Don even established the legal rule that now holds bars responsible for selling alcohol to people who’ve had too much to drink, then hurt innocent people with their impaired driving.

Mr. Boyd completed his undergraduate studies at Mississippi College in 1981. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Mr. Boyd completed his legal education at Mississippi College School of Law in 1984. During law school, Mr. Boyd was selected to serve as a member of the Editorial Board of the Mississippi College Law Review, and he had a casenote selected for publication in the Fall1983 Law Review. Mr. Boyd is also a “graduate” of the 1996 MiniMed School seminar sponsored by the University Of Mississippi Medical Center. Mr. Boyd devotes most of his legal practice to personal injury and wrongful death claims including car wrecks, 18-wheeler/big truck wrecks, motorcycle wrecks, slip and fall injuries, and UM insurance claims (underinsured and uninsured auto insurance issues).

Alison received her Doctor of Jurisprudence from Georgetown University Law Center, magna cum laude, in 1981. As an undergraduate, Alison attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she received two Bachelor of Science degrees in 1978, one in Chemical Engineering and one in Humanities and Science. Alison has long fought to protect the legal rights of injured victims through her leadership positions in the Maryland Association for Justice (formerly the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association) as well as her representation of clients in the courts. Alison has been a member of the MAJ Board of Governors since 1998, serving as President for the 2005-2006 Bar year and as an Officer between 2001 and 2007. In addition to her activities in MAJ, Alison has been a leader at the bar in multiple ways, including serving as a member of the Trial Courts Nominating Commission for Baltimore County (2006 – 2014), the Maryland State Bar Association Board of Governors, the Bar Association of Baltimore City Executive Council, and chairing various committees for the Baltimore County Bar Association. Alison has served as lead counsel in innumerable complex medical malpractice, premises and products liability, car crash and nursing home cases throughout the State of Maryland in both state and federal courts. Alison brings her analytical skills and deep understanding of the law and medicine to a wide array of complex malpractice cases, including cases involving spinal surgery, abdominal surgery, emergency medicine, hip and knee replacement surgery, sepsis and infectious diseases. Complimenting her legal practice, Alison is presently in the Baltimore Women’s Giving Circle, a past president of the Executive Women’s Network, and a former board member of the Maryland Humanities Council and Grants Committee of the Council. Alison, her husband, and their two children live on a farm in rural Maryland with a menagerie of animals. Alison has been an active volunteer in her church, her children’s schools, and local youth theater groups, helping to produce school and community musicals as well as supporting related school activities. When able to take a respite from her busy trial practice, Alison, a lifelong singer, has been involved with various choral groups and theater companies, ranging from singing with the Boston Symphony as part of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus to participating in Gilbert & Sullivan operettas with Baltimore’s Young Victorian Theatre, singing in fundraisers for the Baltimore Bar Foundation, singing in Carnegie Hall with local choral groups, singing in church choirs and singing with The Deer Creek Chorale. Alison keeps herself active by playing golf, fishing and skiing with her family and friends.

Mitchell Burgess is originally from Southwest Missouri. Mitch completed his undergraduate degree at Drury University in Springfield double majoring in History and Political Science. He graduated in 1995, magna cum laude and as a member of the Honors Program. Mitch attended Law School at the University of Missouri - Columbia and received his Juris Doctorate in 1998. While at M.U., Mitch was a member of the Missouri Environmental Law & Policy Review and was published in 1997. After graduating from law school, Mitch clerked for the Honorable Judge Laura Stith on the Missouri Court of Appeals – Western District. Judge Stith now sits on the Missouri Supreme Court. Prior to opening his own law firm in the fall of 2004, Mitch worked for a highly successful Kansas City Plaintiffs litigation firm where he gained tremendous experience handling case across the county involving personal injury, pharmaceutical and product liability litigation. Since founding his own law firm in 2004, Mitch has repeatedly been recognized as one of the top Plaintiffs' Attorneys in the region. He has been named one of the "Best of the Bar" by the Kansas City Business Journal, a "SuperLawyer" by Superlawyers Magazine, and one of the "Top 40 Under 40" by the National Trial Lawyers Association. In 2010, Mitch was named one of the "Winningest" plaintiffs' attorneys by Missouri Lawyers Weekly and also was recognized for securing one of the Top 10 Plaintiffs wins that year. Mitch has had numerous successes in personal injury and class action litigation and has been appointed class counsel on dozens of class action cases.
