Jason McLaurin is a founding member of McLaurin Law. Michael Tillotson & I started our firm with one simple goal: to be the best DWI/DUI attorneys in Virginia. Striving to reach our goal keeps us very busy in the courtroom and classroom. I co-authored and update Virginia DUI Law: Understanding the Scientific, Medical, Technological, and Legal Aspects of a DUI Case (Westlaw, Virginia Practice Series Volume 16). This is the commentary on DUI law used by attorneys and judges in Virginia. Virginia DUI Law explains and exposes the scientific and legal vulnerabilities of breath tests, blood tests, field sobriety tests and so much more. We host the only EC/IR II Breath Test Seminar in Virginia to educate judges and attorneys about the limitations of breath testing on the Intox EC/IR II. I am trained on the EC/IR II and we own a couple Intox EC/IRs. Recently, our firm has discovered that Virginia’s EC/IR II has not been operating properly since 2015. I was the first of two attorneys in Virginia with an American Chemical Society (ACS) Forensic Lawyer-Scientist Designation as recognized by the Chemistry and the Law Division of ACS. This training and designation means that I understand the science of blood testing for DUI and DUI-drug cases. I recently became one of the few defense attorneys to attend the Borkenstein Drug Course – “the most advanced course available anywhere for toxicologists” and Drug Recognition Experts (DREs) in law enforcement. “The course is taught by internationally acknowledged experts who discuss the pharmacology, toxicology and human performance effects of major drug classes associated with driving impairment.” In addition, I attended the DRE Overview & Trial Techniques Training Course. I’m certified as a field sobriety test operator. We bring the NHTSA field sobriety test and EC/IR II breath test manuals with us to every case. Amazingly, I still have not seen any other attorney use them in court! I teach judges and attorneys in two classed for continuing legal education: “Blood Testing in Virginia” and “The Science of Breath, Blood and Field Sobriety Testing.” Our firm trains other attorneys and consults with attorneys on difficult DWI cases. When we need advice, we are just a few mouse clicks away from the best DWI attorneys and scientific experts in the United States through the National College of DUI Defense (NCDD), DUI Defense Lawyers Association (DUIDLA), and Forensic Chromatography Lawyers (ChromLawyers) listserves. I graduated with honors from the William & Mary School of Law with the Gambrell Professional Award for written and oral advocacy and was one of only eleven students recognized for excellence in research, writing, analysis, and trial practice. My Bachelor of Sciences degree in Biology from Towson University helps me in my work with the scientific and medical aspects of DUI. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with extensive course work in physiology and chemistry, and with a host of awards and scholarships. I participated in original research and worked at the University’s anatomy & physiology lab. I was also a trauma tech at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma (MIEMSS) in the Critical Care and Intensive Care Units. In the years between undergrad and law school, I sharpened my speaking and advocacy skills by leading two successful churches in Appalachia and Wisconsin. When not practicing the law throughout Virginia, I live with my wonderful wife, daughter, and dog in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Athena Pearl Riley is a former felony prosecutor, licensed Realtor, and real estate investor. Athena’s extensive trial experience, meticulous attention to case details, and real estate background has made her the go-to attorney for individuals, investors and businesses alike seeking the zealous representation they deserve. Selected to serve as the Chief Justice of her alma mater at the University of New Mexico (UNM), Athena went on to graduate from UNM School of Law, where she was a member of her law school’s nationally ranked mock trial team, winning Regionals and advancing to Nationals. Athena received a number of distinguished honors during law school, including the American Association for Justice Partnership in Advocacy award, the American Board of Trial Advocates mock trial student of the year award, first place honors in the Mediation Competition, advancing to Regionals in the Negotiation Competition, competing in the invitation only National Institute for Trial Advocacy Tournament of Champions, and serving as the President of the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Student Association. Matthew J. Fogelman is a founding partner of Fogelman Law LLC. Mr. Fogelman’s litigation practice is focused on employment law and personal injury cases. He is an experienced trial lawyer, having won a number of significant cases on behalf of plaintiffs, including prevailing before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court in a ground-breaking disability discrimination case involving an employee’s right to use medical marijuana off-site. Mr. Fogelman also reached a settlement in a catastrophic personal injury case for $11.5 million, one of the largest settlement in Massachusetts in 2024. Mr. Fogelman has also prevailed on a race and gender discrimination case in Middlesex County for $2.5 million, and on an age discrimination case in Norfolk County, securing a $1.2 million verdict at trial for his client. The firm also recently settled a wrongful death / dram shop case for $2.2 million at mediation. For his work on the Barbuto medical marijuana employment case, Mr. Fogelman was named one of the “Lawyers of the Year” for 2017 by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly; he also received the award for most outstanding 2017 “Professional Achievement” of any member by USA500, a prominent networking group of lawyers and other professionals, out of 650 members. For eight consecutive years (2018-2025), Mr. Fogelman has been selected as a “Top 100 Super Lawyer” for both Massachusetts and New England, a distinction received by only 100 lawyers out of nearly 44,000 lawyers in Mass. and nearly 80,000 in New England. A native New Yorker, Jonathan Gill has practiced law in New York since 1988. He began his career as an assistant district attorney in the Bronx. As a prosecutor in the Major Offense and Homicide Bureaus, he conducted more than 50 jury trials with a 96% conviction rate. Those cases included the examination of expert witnesses in orthopedics, neurology, trauma surgery, pathology, accident reconstruction and other disciplines, a background that serves him well in personal injury and defense litigation. In addition to serving as a Senior Trial Attorney in the Major Offense & Homicide Bureaus, Mr. Gill was also Deputy Director of Litigation Training for the incoming classes of newly hired ADA's. In 1997, Mr. Gill joined his future partner as a Senior Trial Associate for the staff counsel office of The Travelers Insurance Company, gaining valuable litigation and management skills. He prepared and tried major personal injury and wrongful death cases. He also supervised the first in-house, state-wide subrogation team for The Travelers and developed and managed subrogation lines for major cases, including property, auto and workers' compensation cases. Prior to heading up the New York Subrogation Unit, Mr. Gill supervised a team of 10 attorneys and two paralegals that exclusively handled automobile liability litigation. Mr. Gill also created and implemented several training programs for new lawyers. In 2004, Mr. Gill co-founded Creedon & Gill P.C., with its main office in Northport, New York.
