Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
The client was involved in a collision with her two children in the car, where she collided with another car on the Interstate. She performed poorly on the field sobriety evaluations, was arrested and charged with DUI, Child Endangerment and Failing to Maintain her lane. Due to her job working with children in the schools, the pending charges placed her continued employment in jeopardy. Upon investigating her arrest, the police officer's training files, and reviewing her videos, we mounted a defense and took the case to a jury trial. She was found Not Guilty of all charges, and got to keep her job
How did you build a successful practice?
I developed a successful practice by being listening to and being responsive to clients' individual needs, and paying particular attention to the details that vary from every case we have. Additionally, by having developed experience through years of litigating and negotiating DUI cases all over middle and north Georgia, I have found that many times my reputation has brought about successful resolution of many of the cases.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Listening skills. Responsiveness to clients' needs. Negotiating skills. Trial skills.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Having local knowledge of particular jurisdictions is invaluable to having successful outcomes for our clients. Knowing the personnel at the courthouse, from the clerks, to the bailiffs, to the judges, to the prosecutors translates often times to positive results, even if a case might seem difficult at best.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
A free consultation, in-person, or by phone, can help settle a potential client's nerves. Being arrested can be a traumatic, emotional, embarrassing experience. There are so many important deadlines and potentially devastating outcomes that should be addressed within the first few days following an arrest. A free consultation can put a potential client at ease about the timeline, the driver license issues, and the path ahead, and the potential costs of facing their pending criminal charges.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
Mostly, the information needed in a free consultation concern the particular facts on the day the client was arrested: the county or city where it occurred, the agency/police department involved, the factual interaction between the client and the police, whether there was a breath/blood test - and the result, the court/courthouse where it is pending, and the client's recent and lifetime history for similar charges, if any.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
My practice is limited to DUI and DUI-related offenses. By concentrating in this area for roughly 15 years, I have developed the skills to negotiate a successful outcome for most clients. I keep up with and am on the cutting edge of the latest developments in DUI law, statewide and nationally. Additionally, my legal fees are reasonable compared to other attorneys with similar experience; and we typically will arrange for payment plans on many cases.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
I find it very rewarding to take on cases where my client starts out in such despair about their circumstances and their chances for losing their job, career, relationship, etc, and to be able to turn that around and to get their case dismissed, or reduced; to turn their despair into a a triumph.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I don't play golf. But, I do enjoy running, biking and skiing. I also love watching football - college and NFL. There is nothing better than tailgating or getting together with friends (and beer) over a good football game.
Are you involved in your community?
I am a former president of a local Jaycees chapter, ran for county commissioner, served on my homeowner's association and church committees, and we are involved in our local swim/tennis community.
