About Thomas

Mr. Alexander has experience with a wide range of legal issues including legal issues involving close corporations, shareholder agreements, partnership agreements, personal and corporate tax delinquency matters, foreign bank security and secrecy laws, commercial banking practices, and construction industry practices. Other legal matters he has worked on include breach of contract cases involving the sale of goods or services, or the breach of commercial leasing agreements, as well as various state and federal regulatory issues including complicated environmental and zoning issues. He also has considerable experience in the litigation of cases involving injuries resulting from accidents, including wrongful death cases.

He has published short articles in Rudolph Friedmann's newsletter on the income tax code and zoning regulations, and has given presentations to the firm on issues in contract law and commercial paper in addition to other topics.

In 2003, prior to working at Rudolph Friedmann, he successfully tried an asylum claim in Federal court against the Department of Homeland Security Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization, on behalf of a Chinese female asylum seeker who was granted asylum as a result of the trial. The trial was notable because it proceeded under a novel legal theory, which extended the recognition of persecution under China's one-child policy, to single women who adopt abandoned infants. At the time of the trial, there was testimony presented that the abandonment of female infants was not an uncommon practice in some parts of China.

In the past, Mr. Alexander has served as an Assistant Professor at Manchester Technical College in Manchester, CT, where he taught Introduction to Business Law, Introduction to Evidence and Court Procedure, and Introductions to Criminal Justice. He has been employed as a Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Connecticut, which he attended under a Fellowship grant. While at the University of Connecticut, Mr. Alexander taught a philosophy course which he designed that focused on the social dimensions of technological issues facing society, such as those posed by advancements in biotechnology and artificial intelligence.

Mr. Alexander is a member of the Japan Society of Boston, and has studied Japanese for a number of years. In addition to his interest in Asian culture, as a child he studied music for a number of years, which he still retains a deep interest in. He resides in Boston.
