About Timothy

Good day! My name is Timothy P. Koller, Esq. I am licensed to practice in the State of North Carolina as an Associate with Gunther Law Group.  I have been with Gunther Law Group since I was a 1st Year Law Student Intern in May of 2012.
Prior to going to law school I spent fifteen (15) years in Fire and Emergency Services and served in the United States Navy until I retired in September of 2011.  I served two (2) combat tours in the Global War on Terror, was a member of Navy Special Warfare assigned to Special Boat Team Twenty (SBT-20) before leaving the military.

I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree as a member of the Epsilon Pi Phi honor society for Emergency Services in 2009.  I earned my Master of Legal Studies as a member of the Alpha Phi Sigma honor society for Criminal Justice in 2012 and completed my thesis in Family Law Jurisprudence.  Both my Bachelors and Masters were earned at the American Military University in Manassas, Virginia.  I earned my Juris Doctorate from Regent University School of Law as a member of the Phi Alpha Delta honor society and fraternity for Law.  My focused area of study was in civil litigation and trial/litigation practice and with particular practical study and focus in Family Law and Child Custody.
I engaged in third (3rd) year practice in North Carolina in the 1st District and District 6B from the Spring of 2013 until I graduated in May of 2014.  During my practical training I constructed, drafted, and litigated several family law cases under supervision as well as some misdemeanor criminal cases.  I have also served the 1st District as a Guardian ad Litem (GAL for short) representing minor children, since the fall of 2013 and I will now take over as the GAL Attorney Advocate beginning in July of 2015.

I am a father and husband, an Attorney and Counselor at Law, as well as being a veteran and a Christian.  Gunther Law Group is a Christian centered practice and we strive to do it better, charge fair prices, and be a voice and an advocate for those in need.  I am also an adjunct professor at Mid-Atlantic Christian University in Elizabeth City, North Carolina teaching Law and Policy in Family Ministry.

My practice includes all types of high tension (and not so high tension) Family Law cases including Domestic Violence, Custody, Visitation, Child Support, Alimony/Post Separation Support, Equitable Distribution.  My family law practice is primarily confined to Dare County, Tyrrell County, Washington County, Bertie County, North Hampton County, Halifax County, Pitt County, Washington County, Martin County, Beaufort County, and Hyde County.
I also practice in DSS Court for Termination and Foster Placement cases under Section 7B in all of the above named counties, and Hertford County, Camden County, Pasquotank County, Perquimans County.  I cannot accept any private cases in Gates, Chowan, or Currituck County due to my status as GAL Attorney Advocate.
I  practice all manner of civil cases (law suits) such as civil tort cases, contract disputes, personal injury claims, defective products, landlord tenant, zoning disputes, and any general civil claim (plaintiff or defendant) involving potential litigation.  I am a zealous and strong advocate for my clients, and I would love the opportunity to serve you.
I also practice involving land use disputes, particularly neighbor v. neighbor disputes. There is nothing worse than living next to a monster, I know this from firsthand experience, and I have been through this personally.  One area of practice that I am particularly interested in expanding is the "neighbor v. neighbor" dispute.  I know how hard we all work to own a house and provide a life for our loved ones, however I also know what it feels like to live under constant surveillance, harassment, and personal intrusion that results in your house no longer being a "home".  These are difficult and often times dangerous situations that can result in violence and property damage.  The lasting emotional and psychological effects can also be profound and very costly.  If you find yourself in a situation such as this, please considering giving me a call.  I will give a free thirty (30) minute consultation for any such cases.

It would be my pleasure and honor to serve you, and help you through your issues.  If you are ready for a different experience with your attorney, and you want to be able to speak to your attorney when you call, Gunther Law Group strives to be that firm! At Gunther Law Group we offer personal, professional, service at a reasonable price.

Generally, most Family Law and Civil Litigation cases are billed hourly at a rate of $225.00 for attorney's and $85.00 for Paralegal/Clerks. Minimum hourly deposits are $2,500.00 as a general rule, but could be more depending on the status of the case at the time of engagement. Depending on the complexity, some cases may be offered for limited representation at a nominal flat fee rate. Please ask if your case is eligible for a flat fee retainer during your consultation. Some plaintiff's cases for civil matters may be eligible for contingency retainers, however please be aware that you will likely still have to make a trust deposit to cover the necessary expenses and discovery costs. Contingency percentages depend on the complexity of the case and the amount of work required to execute it. Consultation fees are $50.00 per 30 minutes. Please note that you will not receive free legal advice during these consultations, the purpose of these consultations is to assess the viability of your issue to determine whether it is legally actionable. I am willing to consider taking a very limited number of cases for Domestic Violence Protective Orders (DVPO) or Child Support on either an at-cost retainer or pro bono status. Please note that these will be assessed on a case-by-case basis only, and whether I will accept any one particular case is completely within my discretion. I can accept or decline such representation for any reason or no reason, and whether I will accept such a case is based on a needs assessment of the individual at the time of consultation. Please communicate with me regarding fees and payment options.
