Liz Apodaca is owner and chief legal counsel at My Attorney L.A. where she specializes in Estate Planning, Probate and related areas of practice. A Whittier native and St. Paul High School alumna, Liz’s travel bug led her north where she spent her undergraduate years at California State University, Chico, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations. She honed her business skills in the travel industry working for the corporate offices of United and American Airlines. Always filled with a sense of wanderlust, Liz decided she’d like to experience island life in Hawaii. She went to work for one of Hawaii’s premier hotel chains before she was accepted to the University of Hawaii’s William S. Richardson School of Law on Oahu. Upon earning a Juris Doctorate with honors in 2001, she worked at two of Hawaii’s preeminent law firms practicing commercial litigation—while raising her two young daughters, her youngest born in Hawaii. The Hawaiian way of life made a significant impact on Liz and changed her philosophy of life. When she moved back to Whittier, she brought The Aloha Spirit with her and has integrated it into her work style. “I adopted the positive traits of Hawaii Life, where the focus is on happiness and co-existing with others, where the main concern is about the greater good, not yourself.” In 2010, when a series of events brought her back to Whittier, she took the opportunity to use her law degree to provide a service to others, taking a leap to start her solo practice, with a commitment to provide high-quality legal service without the high cost of traditional law firms. “In the 15 years that have passed since I graduated from law school, my attitude and appreciation of the law has completely transformed. Now I feel that I’m helping people by providing knowledge and guidance, instead of finding a legal position I may not agree with.” What better way to use The Aloha Spirit of interconnectedness and compassion than helping people plan their estates and legacies, to protect their future, and assist them with ways to provide financial security for their loved ones after they are gone? If you’d like to start preparing your estate plan, Liz can offer you a unique working relationship suited for the delicate, personal nature of estate planning in a relaxed, family-like environment. Liz is licensed to practice law in California and Hawaii. She also holds a Master of Laws from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles. Part of The Aloha Spirit means that Liz believes in offering clients fee arrangements they can live with (i.e. low monthly retainer fees and flat legal fees) and charging reasonable hourly rates.

My journey in law was inspired by personal experiences and a commitment to advocating for individuals and families. Growing up in a Spanish-speaking immigrant household, I witnessed the need for ethical attorneys who could provide guidance through the challenging immigration process. This drove me to initiate my professional career in immigration law and for six years I served as a resource for those seeking a better future in a new land. My dedication to serve only deepened when personal circumstances led me to understand the importance of estate planning. Witnessing firsthand the emotional and legal difficulties my family faced during such times was a catalyst for my pursuit of law, drawing parallels to the notion that assembling furniture becomes significantly smoother when armed with a clear plan. These experiences highlighted the critical need for proactive planning in navigating life's most sensitive and intricate moments. Just as constructing furniture necessitates a thoughtful blueprint, I recognized that charting a legal path requires comprehensive understanding, meticulous attention to detail, and a well-crafted strategy. This realization ignited my passion for guiding individuals through these intricate processes, ensuring their interests are safeguarded and their goals achieved. Through my journey, I've come to appreciate the value of compassionate and effective legal support in empowering individuals to make informed decisions. I understand that the challenges faced by individuals and families can be emotionally taxing, and my commitment lies in offering guidance that not only simplifies the complex legal landscape but also provides peace of mind during times of uncertainty.
