I have had the best experience with Portfolio Recovery! When Covid hit in 2020, I was unable to keep up with some of my payments so my account went into collections. Portfolio Recovery has worked with me with payment plans and I am now 2 payments away from the bill being paid off. I never got harassing calls from anyone, usually if I did get a call it was because I was late. Other than that, my experience was an excellent one. It taught me to stay on top of my bills!
I called in good faith trying to get information on how I can start making payments on a debt. The representative was very condescending and disrespectful. He would not give me any information unless I set up a payment plan and told him my income and expenses. He kept repeating himself and commenting that I was being uncooperative. I understand that people want their money, and I DO owe SOMEONE some money (still don't know who), and my intention is to pay, but I don't want to go further into debt somewhere else. These people are very unprofessional and obviously hate their job.
I've been working with a Debt Consolidation firm, who is negotiating all outstanding debt. Several times, Portfolio Recovery has been told this and I've given them the info to contact the company. Instead of negotiating the terms with them, Portfolio has elected to continue calling and harassing me, up to and including, filing a lawsuit. They are not acting in good faith.
They call and even text with no numbers or details when I, personally, have no debts. They either are a scam, too stupid to figure out they keep contacting a wrong number, or they are looking for my ex husband and randomly picked me out of all his ex wives to harass. I took care to have it spelled out in our divorce papers that I'm not responsible for any of his debts
Fraud, fraud, fraud! This company scammed me out of four figures! They never provided debt validation, nor documentation and information from the original creditor, including bill of sale to Portfolio, original signed credit agreement along with payment history. They also had no written permission to collect the debt - which required law. Also, I never had any agreement nor payment arrangement with Portfolio. They bought this debt for pennies of the dollar. Which the original creditor charges of anyway. And employs scar tactic lawsuits to con people of debt they don’t owe portfolio! I need a refund now!
