Zachary Mushkatel discovered his affinity for the law by chance. As a political science major at the University of Arizona, he first aspired to become a professor. But an unexpected invitation to participate on a mock trial team at the university encouraged him to turn his competitive spirit and drive to help others into a legal career. “The law is about representing the client’s best interest, being able to think on your feet, and being a master of language and persuasion,” he says. “It just felt like home to me.” Mushkatel graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2004 and has gone on to build a thriving law firm representing clients in the Sun Cities, Northwest Valley and the Phoenix metro region. Mushkatel brings a diverse array of legal expertise to his practice at Mushkatel, Robbins & Becker, PLLC. He started as a public defender before joining the law office of Henry Florence and Sherry Bell to work as a criminal defense attorney. In 2008, he joined forces with Mathis Becker to form Mushkatel and Becker. Throughout that period, he gained experience working in various practice areas, including personal injury, estate litigation, estate planning, guardianship and conservatorship work, probate, corporate litigation, real estate, and various civil matters. Mushkatel’s cross-disciplinary background provides for comprehensive counsel to clients to explore all possible legal avenues. Today, Mushkatel assists individuals throughout the Valley in personal injury, estate and civil litigation matters. Providing exceptional client service and producing results are his top priorities. “My job is to provide a lifeline to clients who feel stuck or helpless and to go to bat for them,” he says. Several of Mushkatel’s personal injury cases have resolved in excess of one-million dollars. He is the recipient of the 2020 Top-Rated Lawyer Award from Avvo and has been named a “Top 40 Under 40” by The National Trial Lawyers and a Premier Attorney by The National Academy of Jurisprudence. For Mushkatel, delivering maximum results does not mean sacrificing personal relationships. Success comes from taking the time to get to know each client’s individual needs and tailoring the legal approach to match his or her goals. Building those relationships results from creating an unpretentious yet professional environment that puts people at ease. “Most law firms run like businesses,” says Mushkatel. “The problem is that a business’s interests may not always run in stride with a client’s best interests. Our clients are our Number One priority, and the way we show it is by sitting back and listening quite a bit.” Community service is important to Mushkatel and every attorney the firm. Each lawyer is required to worki on at least two pro bono cases at all times. Mushkatel believes those services should be provided not for the accolades or to meet State Bar requirements, but simply because helping others is fundamental to the legal profession. Mushkatel is licensed in the State of Arizona, the Federal District Court of Arizona and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He is on the board and a faculty member for the Arizona College of Trial Advocacy, a program of the State Bar of Arizona’s Trial Practice Section. He is a past president and a member of the West Maricopa County Bar Association and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Surprise Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Sun Valley Lodge. A former semi-professional baseball pitcher, Mushkatel has coached his son’s Little League team for several years. When he is not working, he enjoys golf and spending time with his family.Zachary Mushkatel discovered his affinity for the law by chance. Criminal charges can result in Article 15 and Chapter proceedings, jail, fines, and treatment. All of these things are expensive, and potentially life altering. Traffic tickets, while less serious, can affect your insurance rate, and even your license. An accident can result in massive hospital bills, suffering and bankruptcy. When you need help, our team is here for you. At Durflinger Oliver & Associates you don't have to settle for a single attorney when you can hire a team of experienced lawyers to fight for you. Our attorneys have a half century of collective litigation experience. That means you can rest assured that your case will receive the benefit of 50 years of courtroom practice and experience working with judges, insurance adjusters, and opposing attorneys. Best of all, you get this team at a great value, so you don't have to settle for a single, less experienced lawyer. Founding Partner and Of Counsel attorney James Oliver paid for college by serving in the Army Reserves. In college, he co-captained his university’s NCAA Men’s Volleyball team. As a result of his athletic experience and military service, he understands the value of a team, and the needs and concerns of service members and their families. That’s why he built this firm, and that’s why he instituted the Military Discount offered to service members by Durflinger Oliver & Associates. Founding partner Natalie Durflinger graduated with honors from both the University of Washington and Gonzaga School of Law. At Gonzaga, Natalie was a Thomas More Scholar, and founded the university’s American Civil Liberties Chapter, serving as President. She also performed community service locally, and in Central America before following her passion for criminal defense and establishing Durflinger Oliver & Associates with James Oliver. Natalie’s practice is dedicated almost exclusively to misdemeanor criminal defense including domestic violence, driving offenses, drug charges, and property crimes. She has an established reputation as an aggressive defense attorney who is respected by judges and prosecutors alike. Natalie also has shared her Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure knowledge as a College Adjunct Professor. Senior Associate Martha McLaughlin heads up the firm’s Personal Injury section. She is an Honors Graduate from the University of Puget Sound, and also from Seattle University School of Law. Martha's husband of 30 years is a retired Air Force officer, so Martha knows the difficulties endured by service members and their families. She also knows how to protect you and your family following an accident, or criminal charges. As a former prosecutor, she has been on both sides of the fight and understands what judges are looking for. Martha’s dedicated personal injury paralegal brings three decades of injury litigation experience to the firm, and the two professionals work closely with the firm’s other attorneys to ensure exceptional results for each of our clients. Tracey Munger represents clients accused of felony offenses, and clients in danger of losing their children in dependency proceedings. Her litigation experience began in Louisiana during law school, and continued on into Washington in 2002. She has represented clients in almost every court in the Puget Sound region, and is admitted to practice in the U.S. Federal Court as well. She has won cases as simple as traffic infraction to as complex as federal drug trafficking and everything in between. As head of the Felony Section, Tracey decides which cases the firm will accept, and which staff to assign as support. Her reputation as a “street fighter” has been earned through countless negotiations, hearings, motions, and trials. After 14 years of practice in Western Washington, Tracey has a great understanding of, and appreciation for, the sacrifices of our service members and their families, and she works hard to protect them. Durflinger Oliver & Associates Of Counsel attorney Andrew Huff is a Seattle native who started his career as a prosecuting attorney with Kitsap County before being hired as an associate by well-known criminal defense firm Bennett Raney Moran and Gianneschi. In 2001, he went out on his own and started the Law Office of Andrew Charles Huff in Seattle. Andrew is a former board member of “Citizens for Judicial Excellence,” member of “National College for DUI Defense” and the “Order of Barristers.“ He is also an experienced Judge Pro Tem, which means that he clearly understands what needs to be done to protect his clients. Andrew is a valued teammate of Durflinger Oliver, and his contributions to the accused have brought relief to hundreds of Washington families. No legal team is worth a thing without high quality support staff, and the Durflinger Oliver team is exceptional. In fact, Durflinger Oliver has twice been awarded the “Firm of the Year” award by the Pierce County Chapter of NALS – The National Association of Legal Professionals. The staff at Durflinger Oliver make the weekly team meetings possible and productive and ensure that every client file is regularly team reviewed. Jack E. "Bobby" Truitt was born in Texas, but raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. After graduating from Jesuit High School of New Orleans, he attended Louisiana State University where he obtained a business administration degree with a minor in political science. He then obtained his J.D. from Loyola University School of Law and has been licensed in Louisiana and Texas since. He is admitted to practice in all Louisiana State and Federal District and Appellate Courts and has been admitted to the United States Supreme Court as well. Mr. Truitt began his practice with a small defense firm that practiced primarily admiralty, worker's compensation, and general casualty litigation. However, he soon joined a larger insurance defense firm in Metairie, Louisiana where he began trying many cases on behalf of major national clients such as Kmart, Cox Cable, Tonti Properties, and Walgreens; there, he obtained numerous "zero verdicts" in bench and jury trials. Mr. Truitt soon became a partner in this firm, but was dissatisfied with the "big firm" mentality, so he formed his own firm with two assistant district attorneys, who thereafter returned to practicing criminal law on a full-time basis. The Truitt Law Firm continued with the association of Jack E. Truitt, Bobby's father, who has since passed, and others. The firm continues to represent major national clients successfully at the trial and appellate levels. The firm has significant experience in the areas of pharmaceutical defense, automobile litigation, premises liability, construction litigation, worker's compensation, business litigation, and criminal defense. Mr. Truitt has been a presenter at many continuing education seminars for other lawyers, paralegals, and claims professionals. He is also a former member of the Louisiana Bar Association House of Delegates, the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, and the prestigious Defense Research Institute. He has achieved the highest rating from his peers in Martindale Hubbell, and the firm recently was awarded the distinction of approval by A. M. Best Insurance Ratings. Mr. Truitt serves on the Board of Directors for the West St. Tammany YMCA and is involved in other organizations benefitting the community. Mr. Truitt resides in Covington, Louisiana with his wife and three boys.
