Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
Wallin and Klarich makes a major difference in scores of lives every month by winning many criminal cases. This results in our clients being free from custody, saving their jobs and keeping their criminal records clean. We have done that for the past 35 years. In one recent case, one of our clients was facing several counts of child molestation and if convicted, he would be in prison for life. His family called us after finding out his bail was set at one million dollars. One of our brilliant lawyers took the case to jury trial and convinced a majority of the jurors that our client was not guilty. The District Attorney had no choice but to then agree to let him out of jail by entering a plea to misdemeanor disturbing the peace. So instead of spending the rest of his life in prison, he is now a free man due to the efforts of Wallin & Klarich.
How did you build a successful practice?
I began as a criminal defense attorney in 1977 and Stephen Klarich and I formed Wallin & Klarich in 1981. Since then we have successfully represented over 50,000 clients and their families who were fighting criminal charges. The formula that we have followed for over 35 years is simple: l. Treat your clients with respect. 2. Treat your clients how you would want to be treated if you were facing criminal charges. 3. Understand that your clients and their families are going through a stressful time and may need encouragement and expert legal guidance. 4. Work tirelessly to obtain the best result possible for your clients. If you do the above four things you can have a successful criminal defense law firm that continues to grow year by year. Wallin & Klarich is one of the most highly sought after criminal defense law firms in California for the reasons outlined above.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
a) Experience in the specific area of law in which they need legal help. b) A lawyer who is highly familiar with the court and court personnel where their case is pending. c) Someone who will respect them but at the same time be honest with them and not make false promises. d) Some they feel comfortable speaking to and asking questions.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Having knowledge of the local courts and local court procedures is one of the most important criteria in selecting a lawyer.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
Our law firm has been providing free phone consultations for over 35 years. In a high percentage of cases we can answer our clients' questions completely. This results in them not having to hire and pay expensive legal fees. In cases where they need to retain a criminal defense law firm we tell them everything they need to do to make the most informed decision as to what they are facing in terms of criminal liability as well as what they should look for in terms of the best law firm to retain for their case.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
When a new client calls we need as much information as possible in order to help them. This includes a. The nature of the charges b. Where the case is pending (in what court) c. Does the accused have a prior criminal record? d. Has he/she made any admissions or confessions to law enforcement or others as to the charges? e. Is the accused in or out of custody? f. Is the accused on parole or probation? g. If the client is in custody what is his/her bail? h. Can the family afford to post the bail that is currently set?
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
Nothing is more valuable than experience. That is true in just about any type of employment. It is even truer in the field of criminal defense. There are very few, if any criminal defense law firms in California with our 35 years plus of experience in this field.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
By far the most rewarding aspect of what we do at Wallin & Klarich is when we are able to receive a positive outcome for our clients in a criminal case. When a client fears that they are going to lose their freedom and their job and maybe even their family, we work hard to save them from any or all of these potential consequences. It is extremely rewarding when we are able to accomplish this.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
Politics, taking my grandchildren to the park and traveling to new and exciting places.
Are you involved in your community?
Yes, I am the President of my Homeowners Association and I also donate to many local charities.
