Asylum applicants can now receive two year work permits

Summary: USCIS Increases Validity of Work Permits From One Year to Two Years for Asylum Applicants

Starting on Ocotber 5, 2016, applicants with pending asylum claims who apply for initial or renewal Employment Authorization Documents will receive two year work permits, rather than the previous one year work permit. Applicants should file Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, and choose category (c)(8). This change applies to all (c)(8) - based applications that remain pending on October 5, 2016 and all such applications filed on or after October 5, 2016. Contact your immigration attorney to determine your eligibility.
