Biggest Estate Planning Mistake -  Procrastination!

Don't end up like Prince!  Did you know that 55% of Americans die without a will?  This is almost an unbelievable statistic.  How can this be if we all know if we have assets and or children then we need a will?  This happens because a will is something that we think can always be put off to another day.  Unfortunately, time does run out and we never know when.  Did you know that if you die without a will, the State decides who gets your children and your assets?  Your assets are distributed according to a statutory formula with no room for personal wishes and a judge decides who should be the guardian for your children.   

Also, the Surrogate Court in almost all cases requires the person the court has appointed as administrator of the intestate estate to post a bond.  This bond can cost up to several thousand dollars depending on the size of the estate.  In most cases, the cost of this bond is not recovered and in many cases this cost is more than what the deceased would have spent on an estate plan.
