Child Find: When Should School Districts Be Contacted?
Child Find is a process of identifying and evaluating children with disabilities that school districts are required to conduct in their respective towns. When it comes to identification, there are several cases where a school district should be called to refer a child to special education:
-
Concerns about Development: If there are worries that a child's development is not progressing as expected.
-
Doctor's Assessment: If a child's doctor has identified developmental delays or concerns.
-
Premature Birth
-
Academic Struggles: If a child is not performing well in school and the reasons are unclear.
-
Concerns from Others: If family members, caregivers, or others express concerns about a child's development or academic progress.
In each of these scenarios, the school district plays a key role in supporting the child's educational and developmental needs. They can provide assessments, referrals to specialists, and access to services that can help address any challenges the child may be facing.
