Connecticut Man Steals $1.2 Million From In-Law's Estate

A Groton man has been charged with stealing more than $1.2 million from the estate of his deceased in-laws.
Local sources report that 68-year-old David Burrell is charged with first-degree larceny. He is free on a $50,000 bond pending a scheduled appearance Monday in New London Superior Court.
Police began investigating in December at the request of a probate judge who reported suspicious activity associated with the estate of Darrell and Dorothy Haynes.
Darrell Haynes died in 2012. Dorothy Haynes died in 2014.
An attorney managing the estate reported that Dorothy Haynes’ accounts should have totaled $1.3 million but only had about $20,000 left.
Burrell told police he was fulfilling Dorothy Haynes’ wish of purchasing properties and gifting the remainder to himself and an unnamed individual.
