Summary: Replying to a collections lawsuit is in your best interest; if you don't, a default judgment can be granted against you almost automatically, bringing with it the threat of wage garnishments, property seizure, and bank levies.

"Debt collections agencies often pay on commission... with accounts purchased for mere pennies on the dollar, collectors will often do whatever they can to see if they can a bill paid off. Once that is not happening, things might quiet down briefly, only for you to find a process server or sheriff at your door bearing a lawsuit."
