Summary: You may not have a lot of notice regarding a default judgment, and it can be quite a shock to try to go through the grocery checkout line only to discover your funds have been frozen.

"Although you can avoid dealing with the collections lawsuit and you can avoid going to court, chances are you will not be able to avoid what happens next as the creditor or debt collections agency is able to take much more aggressive action toward you to see the debt satisfied. Upon establishing a court order to have your wages garnished, they can also freeze your checking accounts."
