Defining Characteristics of an Emotional Disability
To establish the presence of one or more characteristics, it is necessary for them to be persistent, generalized, and sustained over time and across various situations. The defining traits of ED are illustrated in the descriptions that follow.
-
The student demonstrates a lack of learning that cannot be attributed to intellectual, sensory, or health-related issues
-
The student shows difficulty in forming or sustaining satisfactory relationships with peers and teachers

After confirming that the inappropriate behaviors and emotions are markedly different, it is also necessary to determine that they stem from an emotional condition
