Are you a victim of domestic violence and have a pet in need of fostering until you can get back on your feet? If you live in New Jersey, help is available. A unique organization called “Shelter Our Pets” based in New Jersey provides services to victims of domestic violence who have had to flee their home and need temporary shelter for their pets. You’ll need to fill out an application, provide proof of ownership (or have your pet included in your restraining order), sign an authorization to have a vet treat your pet and sign a liability release form. Once your pet has been accepted into the program, he will be matched with a confidential foster parent, kennel or other volunteer provider. For more information, contact Shelter Our Pets at 973 506-9696 or visit them online at www.shelterourpets.org.
