HEALTH CARE DECISIONS WORKSHOP: MAKING SURE YOUR WISHES ARE COMMUNICATED

Date/Time:  Friday, October 19, 2018 – 11am

Place:  Lansdowne Woods Wellness Expo, Leesburg, VA (Exclusively for Lansdowne Woods Residents)

Have you effectively communicated your healthcare wishes and appointed someone to make decisions on your behalf if you are unable to? Many people are familiar with the names of Karen Ann Quinlan, Nancy Cruzan and Terri Schiavo. The lives of these three young women remind everyone of the importance of making our healthcare wishes known and appointing someone to speak for us when we can no longer speak for ourselves.

Please join us for tips and tools on how to start the conversation, and learn what legal documents you should have in place to provide peace of mind and avoid unnecessary emotional burdens and financial costs for you and your family.  We will discuss the ins and outs of Advance Medical Directives/Living Wills, Health Care Powers of Attorney, HIPAA Authorizations, DNRs, POSTs and more.  We will also hear practical considerations from the physician’s and care manager’s perspectives, and try to dispel some of the myths surrounding end of life decisions and treatment.
