How Many School Days Can a Child Miss in Connecticut?

Connecticut state law mandates that school districts and schools implement specific policies and procedures for students who are considered truant. A student is truant when they have four unexcused absences within a month (30 consecutive days) or ten unexcused absences in a school year. When a student becomes truant, the school must convene a meeting with the student's parent or guardian within ten school days. During this meeting, the school should collaborate with the student and guardian to facilitate the student's return to school. Additionally, schools are encouraged to partner with community agencies that provide child and family services to help address any barriers the student may face in attending school.
