The purpose of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) is to provide special education students with the services and accommodations they need to achieve academic success. A key part of IEP development is creating measurable goals that detail the student’s anticipated learning outcomes and help track their progress. During IEP meetings, a student’s Planning and Placement Team (PPT) will review their performance and determine which goals have been met, which have not, and which should be removed or changed. The PPT must meet at minimum once a year for an IEP meeting, so these goals should be reviewed and updated annually at the very least.
