It’s said that there is nothing certain other than death and taxes, and the only way you can avoid the IRS is to overcome  the 10 year statute of limitations, or death! So if they come calling, via phone, email or other notice, ignoring them could be catastrophic.
The IRS can do any and all of the following unless you resolve the tax issue by negotiation and compromise:
* File an IRS tax Lien against your house
* Serve a tax levy on your wages, also known as a garnishment
* Serve a tax levy on your investments and brokerage account(s)
* Serve a tax levy on your bank accounts
* Take your state income tax return (interceptor)
* Take and sell your car.
