Summary: Marijuana Possession in Cook County

Great news out of Cook County. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office said it will stop prosecuting the possession of under 30 grams of marijuana. Also, the State's Attorney will pursue the expungement of all misdemeanor cannabis convictions in Cook County. Keep in mind, possession of over 30 grams is a felony; possession for that amount will still be prosecuted. Finally, villages still have the opportunity to pursue civil penalties for possession of under 30 grams of marijuana if the village has an ordinance prohibiting the possession of marijuana. As always, if charged or cited for possession of marijuana, consult with an attorney!
