Macomb Judge’s girlfriend arrested

If you let someone drive your children home from a wedding reception you better give them a breathalyzer test first! This is probably what Macomb County Judge Richard Caretti’s ex-wife is thinking right about now. Brenda Conway, 50, was arrested around midnight Jan. 13-14 after she pulled into the driveway of the home of Caretti’s ex-wife.

Minor child text message’s leads to arrest

Police were called by the ex-wife after one of her daughters text messaged her that Conway was drunk and driving erratically on the way home from a Macomb Township wedding reception. Preliminary breathalyzer tests indicated her blood-alcohol content was 0.15 and 0.16 percent!

Judge a passenger in vehicle where driver was arrested

To make matters even worse Judge Richard Caretti was a passenger in that same vehicle! How could a minor child text her mother and tell her the driver of the car is drunk when her father is in that same vehicle and does nothing? Too bad the police could not have done a breathalyzer test on all the adults in that vehicle that evening. One tends to wonder how coherent any one was in that vehicle other than the two innocent minor children who had their lives put in jeopardy.

Pretrial scheduled for next Monday

Brenda Conway, the girlfriend of Macomb County Judge Richard Caretti, lost her motion to toss out some or all of the evidence against her regarding the allegation she drove intoxicated with Caretti’s two minor children in her vehicle. The Macomb Daily reports that 46th District Court Judge Debra Nance’s ruling means the case should proceed with a pretrial scheduled for next Monday.

Child Protective Services Involved

Judge Richard Caretti denied he knew that Conway could have been drunk, and his attorneys argued that police did not have probable cause to arrest Conway. Child Protective Services investigated the allegation that he allowed his children to ride with a suspected drunken driver. The results have not been made public.
