Parental Notification of Restraint and Seclusion in Public Schools

Local and regional boards of education must notify parents or guardians of a student who has been placed in physical restraint or seclusion within 24 hours of placement. In addition, boards of education must make a legitimate effort to notify parents or guardians right after the physical restraint or seclusion involving their child has been initiated. These notifications must be made via phone call, e-mail, written note sent home with the child, or another method. The parent or guardian of the child must be provided with a copy of the incident report within 2 business days of the restraint or seclusion, regardless of if they have received the notification.
