Parents Not Required to Pay for Child's Extracurricular Activities

Summary: New York's Child Support Standard's Act (CSSA) mandates that parents pay for certain un-reimbursed medical, dental and daycare expenses. However, the law does not mandate payments for extracurricular activities.
Some families have significant additional expenses for extracurricular activities for their children. The New York Child Support Standards Act (CSSA) does not mandate that divorcing spouses pay for their child's extracurricular expenses, like soccer, karate or swimming.
The only mandated expenses or "add-ons" parents must pay for are health insurance premiums, un-reimbursed medical and dental expenses, and day care expenses - related to employment or job-training.
However, parents can agree, in their divorce agreement to pay their share of extracurricular activities for their children either equally or in proportion to their incomes. Contact me at fclarke@fredclarkelaw.com with your questions. #childsupport, #divorce, #CSSA, #addons, Law Office of Fred Clarke
