Slow progress for defrauded timeshare owners

Progress in moving against timeshare scammers who prey on innocent consumers is slower than many of us would like to see, but there IS improvement!  As timeshare attorneys who represent defrauded timeshare owners on a daily basis, we well understand the devastating financial and emotional impact of manipulative sales tactics.  Frequently, our clients come to us after they have been fleeced – once again – by timeshare resale outfits requiring upfront fees, promising quick sales and disappearing without results. Learn more about how to get rid of your timeshare!

Pushing back against a multi-billion-dollar industry

Slowly, the efforts of focused regulatory agencies and determined timeshare attorneys are helping to push back against multi-billion-dollar timeshare companies and unlawful timeshare resellers.  This InsideTheGate article highlights long overdue justice in the case of a fraudulent timeshare predator.  An Illinois United States District Judge revoked the earlier supervised release of Wesley Scott Aldred, Kissimmee, Florida, and sentenced hm to 21 months in federal prison and 39 months of supervised release – finally!

Three years earlier, Aldred and nine other defendants had been indicted for fraud in a telemarketing timeshare scheme in which they stole over $14 million from over 7,000 U.S. and Canadian timeshare owners.  After pleading guilty, Aldred was sentenced to one day in prison, a $750 fine and a 24-month supervised release. Clearly, that slap on the wrist did not deter his felonious theft from innocent timeshare owners!

“The most despicable scam in the world”

Those are the precise words of the Honorable David R. Herndon, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.  He described the fraudulent timeshare resale “industry” as one that hires recovering drug addicts to steal from financially-drained timeshare owners.
