Time Period for Restraint and Seclusion

Restraint and seclusion should be limited to the amount of time necessary for the student to calm down and return to the school environment. If the period of restraint or seclusion is longer than 15 minutes, an administrator, health personnel, or certified behavioral analyst who has been trained in conducting restraint or seclusion will determine whether they need to continue the restraint or seclusion to prevent imminent harm to the student or others. If it is determined that continued restraint or seclusion is necessary, the professional must reassess this determination every 30 minutes.
