Connecticut Alternate Assessments (CTAAs) evaluate the knowledge and skills of students with significant cognitive disabilities, in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). These assessments aim to foster student independence by making academic and language content accessible and setting appropriate achievement levels. The goal of the Connecticut Alternate Assessment System is to promote student independence by ensuring that academic content is accessible and achievement levels are realistic. The CTAA, along with The Connecticut Alternate Science (CTAS) Assessment and The Connecticut Alternate Assessment of English Language Proficiency (CAAELP), make up the Connecticut Alternate Assessment System.
