Multiple Disabilities means that a student has two or more of the disabilities recognized by the IDEA, and that this combination meets certain criteria. Under federal law, multiple disabilities is defined as accompanying impairments whose combination requires serious educational needs that cannot be addressed with services designed for only one of the impairments. In other words, a student qualifies for Multiple Disabilities when their condition is so severe that providing support for one of the disabilities in the combination is not sufficient.
