ID stands for “Intellectual Disability”, and it is a condition that is diagnosed prior to the age of 18 and can significantly impact a child’s daily functioning. Section 300.8 (b) of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) defines ID as significantly below-average general intellectual functioning, along with limitations in adaptive behavior, occurring during the developmental period and negatively impacting a child's educational performance. Some of the signs of ID include: impaired motor and language development, lack of intellectual growth, absence of curiosity, falling behind in school, difficulty adjusting, and trouble following and understanding rules.
