In the State of Texas insurance is mandatory for all drivers. However, that still doesn't mean that all drivers have insurance. I have often seen where old insurance cards are used when there is an accident and the other driver believes that the insurance is good only to leave the scene of the accident realizing there is no coverage. That's when you need to look to your own policy and make what is called an "uninsured" motorist claim. Uninsured insurance covers a driver when the other adverse driver who caused the accident does not have insurance. The policy then steps in place and provides coverage for the accident to reimburse the bills.
