What is an IAES?

An IAES is an Interim Alternative Educational Setting, and it is defined as a suitable environment established by the child's IEP Team or a hearing officer, where the child is placed for no longer than 45 school days. This environment allows the child to continue receiving educational services, enabling participation in the general education curriculum (in a different setting) and progress toward the objectives outlined in the IEP. If applicable, the environment includes a functional behavioral assessment (FBA) and behavioral intervention services and modifications to address the behavioral violation and prevent its recurrence.
