Dysgraphia refers to difficulties with writing, and it is related to challenges in transcription, including handwriting, typing, and spelling. Problems with transcription can lead to other issues, such as a hindered ability to express one's thoughts through writing. Dysgraphia is not a reflection of poor intelligence, and is often rooted in motor issues. Some of the problems people with dysgraphia may face when it comes to their handwriting are:

  • Letter formation

  • Grammar and sentence structure

  • Spacial awareness

  • Writing straight, clear, and complete

  • Holding writing instruments

Dysgraphia is not a recognized disability under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and it has no formal diagnosis. However, dysgraphia is a real problem and it may even occur alongside ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning disabilities.
