What is Educational Neglect in Connecticut?

Educational neglect is when the parent or guardian of a child aged 5 through 17, who is not a high school graduate, fails to:

• register their child in school

• allow their child to attend school or home school them

• ensure that their child is regularly attending school.

Educational neglect can occur through a parent/guardian’s actions or inaction, and may result in a DCF investigation.
