What is the Stay Put Law in Connecticut?

“Stay Put” is a policy that requires a student to remain in their current program or placement during a due process hearing unless both the parent and the school district agree to a change. Due process hearings are legal proceedings that aim to resolve a discrepancy between parents and their child’s school district. A due process hearing may be requested by parents who disagree with a proposed or refused decision regarding their child’s education. During a pending due process hearing, the child's classification, program, or placement must remain unchanged from what it was when the hearing was requested.
