What is the Timeline for Special Education in Connecticut?
A school district has 45 school days to conduct an initial evaluation (excluding the time it takes to obtain parental consent) once it receives a written special education referral for a student. The student’s Planning and Placement Team (PPT) will then meet to discuss the referral, and the referral record will be sent to the Evaluation Timelines Collection (ETC) once consent for evaluation is received. After the evaluation, the student will be deemed eligible or ineligible for special education and related services. If they are eligible, the PPT will reconvene to develop the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). The evaluation timeline for a special education student starts once the referral is received by the school district, and ends when the IEP is implemented or it is determined that the student is ineligible.
